It’s possible that I shouldn’t be blogging right now. I’ve haven’t slept well all week and I still have a project to finish. But I hate having thoughts and not being able to write them down.
It’s rather ironic, though. I spend more time on the internet than I do with God—and it’s probably more important to me that they’re killing the internet with SOPA and PIPA than it is that they have killed Christ and, no matter what, I can live life to the fullest with that.
That is probably one of the areas I struggle the most is finding what really is important. I try to use the internet as a tool to further move the Kingdom of God and spread Love and Good News, but it’s all in vain if my own relationship with Christ suffers from that. I think it’s time to admit that I do rely on technology too heavily to do things for me. *sigh*
I do believe that these acts are going totally the wrong direction. We’re all basically becoming robots; the government is telling us that unless we have the means to do it, they would rather us lose our ability to be creative than for us to even touch the copyright laws. This blog itself uses so many copyrights that even I probably overlook. We all create from our surroundings; no one can create from nothing but God. The policy NOW would allow certain Bible companies to request I remove content. The NEW policy could put me in jail for it. It will also allow the larger companies to destroy any newer companies if they were able to “convince” a judge that they use copyrighted material, and they have the money for the good judges. Long story short, I believe these laws are unconstitutional. (And, for the record, I’m against piracy.)
However, if the internet did happen to go down, it would be a wake up call for a lot of people in my generation, especially the Christians. We are so reliant on the internet, and it has been one of the biggest crippling factors of this generation. We all have such high expectations, and the more these things become easier, the less our students are actually going to think about these things.
Me? I get caught up way too much in what’s NOT important. I blame technology—and my whole life is wrapped around technology.
